Why Tutoring?
Everyone has a unique reason for seeking out tutoring services. Over the years, I’ve helped all kinds of different students with different goals in mind. Tutoring can be a viable option for students in a number of circumstances. These are just a few examples of general categories of circumstances that I’ve noticed students find themselves in where they seek out tutoring services:
The student who has fallen behind in the class
This student has put forth the effort to succeed in their class, but due to reasons outside of their control like absences, the teacher/professor’s teaching style, outside life events that have gotten in the way of their studying, etc., they have fallen behind in the class. Unfortunately with these math and science classes, the topics continually build on the previous topics and concepts. So even failing to grasp the ideas from one or two days in class can make it very easy to fall behind as the class continues since some of those future lessons won’t make sense without understanding the previous lessons. This student needs a tutor to teach the material in a personalized way that better meets their needs.
The student who is extremely busy
This student has a full load of academic and other activities like sports or a job that make it so that they cannot devote the necessary time to their studies. These students need someone to go through their assignments with them and help them study so that in the few hours they have available to work on their calculus or chemistry class, they can make significant progress on their studying and assignments rather than struggling during that time and not getting much done. This student needs a tutor who can efficiently guide them through problem sets and study sessions to keep them on track and correct mistakes.
The student who wants some level of insurance
Classes like calculus at the high school and college level are very important. Some students are majoring in a business degree and the only thing standing between them and their degree is a Business Calculus class. These students understand that failing that class will hold them back and force them to take another semester of classes in order to fulfill that requirement. That’s a lot of time and money wasted if that’s what ends up happening. These students realize they will need the extra help even before the class begins, so they wisely seek out a tutor early on so that they get that extra security or insurance that will keep them on track for the grade they need. Why risk it?
